Ipoh and Perak events calendar 2027

Ipoh's busiest 2027 dates are Thaipusam (Friday 22 January), Chinese New Year (6–8 February), Hari Raya Aidilfitri with the March school breaks (6–21 March), the mid-year school holidays in Malaysia and Singapore (22 May – 27 June) and December, when both countries' schools are off. Islamic holiday dates can still move by a day.

Ipoh gets busiest when Malaysian and Singapore holidays overlap. In 2027 the main peaks are Thaipusam (Friday 22 January), Chinese New Year (6–8 February), Hari Raya Aidilfitri and the March school breaks (6–21 March), the mid-year school holidays (22 May – 27 June) and December. Some events have not announced their 2027 dates yet, and the table says so.

A few things to know before you read the table:

  • Islamic holidays (Nuzul Al-Quran, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Hari Raya Haji, Awal Muharram, Maulidur Rasul) depend on the moon sighting and can move by a day.
  • Malaysian public holiday dates come from the official 2027 holiday schedule published by the Prime Minister's Department (updated 20 August 2026). It marks the Hari Raya days and Deepavali as subject to change. When a holiday falls on a Sunday, the next working day is usually given as a replacement; those days are marked "expected" below.
  • Malaysian school holidays are for Kumpulan B, the group that includes Perak, Selangor, KL and Johor. They come from the Education Ministry's (KPM) 2027 academic calendar, announced on 2 October 2026.

When is Thaipusam in Ipoh?

Thaipusam is on Friday 22 January 2027, a public holiday in Perak on the official 2027 schedule. In Ipoh the focus is the Kallumalai Arulmigu Sri Subramaniar Temple at Gunung Cheroh, where more than 300,000 devotees and visitors attended in 2025. Expect large crowds around the temple on the day.

Is Ipoh busy at Chinese New Year?

Yes. Chinese New Year falls on 6–7 February 2027, with Monday 8 February expected as a replacement holiday in Malaysia and confirmed as one in Singapore. Malaysian schools in Perak's group also get extra days off on 5 and 9–12 February. Scoot's Singapore–Ipoh fares for the week before Chinese New Year were above S$700 one way when checked in October 2026, and ETS train tickets for January and February 2027 went on sale on 2 November 2026. Expect some hawker stalls to close for the first days of the holiday, so check before you set out for a particular place.

When is durian season in Perak?

The main season in Perak is usually around June to August, with a smaller, less reliable season around November to January in some years. The timing shifts each year with the rainfall. See our durian season guide.
